The Gentle Return of Spring: What to look out for

There’s something about Spring that brings so much happiness. The slow change into longer days, when leaving the office, is still just light out. Knowing that I’ll be able to sit outside in the light after work gives me hope. It doesn’t happen all at once—spring arrives in whispers, in tiny moments that are easy to miss if you’re not paying attention. But when you do notice? It’s like a secret, reminding us that change is always happening, and that joy is often found in the smallest details. Today we’re going to take a look at 5 things to try and notice throughout this change in seasons.

The First Spring Blooms

One day, the soil still looks bare and wintry. The next, a pop of colour peeks through the soil—snowdrops, crocuses, daffodils. The sight of those first flowers feels like a promise, a reminder that even after the coldest, darkest days, life finds a way to bloom again. Keep an eye out for tiny buds on trees soon they’ll burst into blossoms, painting the world in soft pinks, whites, and yellows.

As well as seeing the first of the flowers, Spring is a great time to plant some fruit, vegetables and other flowers. Click Here to read about what you can plant in April!

The Return of the Birdsong

Have you noticed the mornings are getting noisier? That’s because the birds are back! Robins, blackbirds, and finches are back to chirping as soon as it’s light outside, filling the air with the soundtrack of spring. It’s a beautiful shift—waking up to birds chirping instead of the quiet hush of winter. Try taking a moment in the morning to just listen. Close your eyes, breathe in the fresh air, and let the music of nature remind you that a new season is unfolding.

Warmer, Brighter Days

The days are stretching out, bit by bit. Sunsets linger, golden light spills into the evenings, and the warmth of the sun feels different—softer, kinder. That first day you step outside without a heavy coat is always a little victory. Even if the air is still crisp, there’s a new energy in the warmth. It’s the kind of feeling that makes you want to stay outside just a little longer, to soak up every extra moment of daylight.

Tiny Creatures Emerging

The world is waking up, and that includes the tiniest residents of nature. Bees start to buzz around the first flowers, butterflies flutter past on gentle breezes, and even ladybugs begin to reappear. Watching these small creatures go about their day is a beautiful reminder of how everything in nature moves in its own rhythm, perfectly timed with the seasons.

A Spring Shift in Energy

Finally, have you noticed how people seem lighter? Maybe it’s the sunshine, maybe it’s the fresh air, or maybe it’s just the feeling of stepping into the next season. People start to venture out more into public spaces like parks and town centres and there’s an unmistakable sense of movement everywhere you go. Spring invites us to open our windows, take deep breaths, and step outside with a little more joy in our step.

I’m getting so excited to see what else this year has in store.
