Summer is one of my favourite seasons, the long days, the good weather and getting to see everyone out and about always make me feel happier. Today, I thought it would be a good idea to go through some of the best things in summer, not just to remind myself but also to give others the opportunity to spot them too. I’ve split these small things into broader categories: Sensory details, summer treats, nature and adventures
1. Sensory details
- Fresh-cut grass
The cool grass is perfect as you sit down for a picnic or play football with your friends outside - Warm breeze
The way a gentle breeze ripples through the trees or moves the grass in a field - Golden light
Light in the summer is this beautiful golden colour, it makes things look like they’re in a movie.
2. Summer treats
- Fresh Seasonal Fruit
I absolutely love strawberries. Knowing that they’re in season always lifts my mood. Other fruits are also more flavourful, such as watermelon and berries. - Ice Creams
Ice cream trucks are back out chiming down each street. There’s also something great about getting home and finding some ice pops in the freezer. The perfect treat for a hot day.
3. Nature
- Bees are back!
Little fuzzy bumble bees are back collecting pollen and flying around. There are also more moths and butterflies around. - Flowers and plants are in full bloom
More beautiful flowers are out in bloom. My favourites this time of the year are the roses. - Rainy Summer Storms
Warm rain splatters on windows, dramatic clouds rolling in, the smell of petrichor rising from hot pavement.

4. Adventures
- Pop-Up Picnics
A cheese and cracker spread on a park bench or blanket in the park, if you want to hear more about picnics, here’s our last blog on it - Sun-Sational Road Trips
Heading somewhere new or your favourite summer spot. Going somewhere in the sun makes it so much better. - Outside sports
Going outside and doing a sport, frisbee, football, or even some water sports like paddleboarding, is great fun in the summer.

There is so much in summer to look forward to. I hope everyone has at least one small thing that they notice that brings them happiness this summer. Please feel free to share them in the comments below.
