A pause for positivity

a pause symbol with blue flowers behind it

With January being almost over, I’ve found it really hard this year to focus on the good things and make a positive start to 2025. I have spent some time trying to change my mindset to make room for some good things to try and change my mood. Taking this pause has helped me feel better – even for a short period.

After noticing this was helping I thought it could be something that could help others who are feeling the January blues.

What to focus on?

Focusing on positivity is more than just wishful thinking—it’s a powerful tool for improving our mental and emotional well-being. Firstly it might be easier to write down a list of things that make you happy. For example, this was something I wrote down:

  • Animals – especially dogs
  • Drawing or painting nerdy models
  • Listening to music and reading

Using this exercise helped me understand how I could work on making myself happier. Having this list written down physically was a good reminder for me. I then made a plan to try and include these things into my daily routine. I left some time at the end of the day for drawing, I looked at some very cute animals on Reddit (Click here to see some adorable animals) and I made it a goal of mine to do at least one thing on the list every day.

This time helped me remember that there’s always some good even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

Understanding life isn’t perfect

Of course, it’s important to acknowledge that life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. There are tough days, and it’s okay to feel those emotions fully. Positivity isn’t about ignoring struggles—it’s about finding balance. One thing to look at when you’re having those bad days one thing to lean on those bad days are friends and family. Having someone you trust have your back is something that really helps get you through those tougher days

From struggling times often come lessons of great value. So when looking back at those tough times try and understand what you’ve learnt from those times.

An Invitation to Pause

As you finish reading this, I invite you to take a moment to pause. Think of some things you’ve been neglecting that make you happy and try and fit them into your schedule.
