Tomorrow is my birthday. I always love this time of year, it’s always super busy with events and meeting up with friends, but it also gives me time to look at the first half of the year and reflect on what I want to change for the second half. So today I thought it would be good to look at all the positive things to do with birthdays.
Celebrating Life on your Birthday
The first little thing that I think is so important is just celebrating life. Your birthday is a celebration of surviving another year. I think of it as a reminder of how far I’ve come and what I’ve experienced. An annual milestone to reflect on growth and accomplishments. It also helps you think of people, memories and things that make life good. It’s a day to feel thankful for the little things, like being here to celebrate it.
Connection with Others
One of the most heartwarming parts of a birthday is the way it draws people in. Whether it’s a heartfelt message, a surprise call, or someone remembering your favourite treat, it’s a moment to feel surrounded by love. It reminds us that we matter to others – even if we don’t talk every day, we’re thought of, and that’s a powerful feeling.
Joy and Fun
There’s something magical about birthdays. It’s a day where joy is the goal, and silliness is encouraged. I always try and enjoy every moment on my birthday. That can expand into a few different sections:
- Food is always a big part of my birthday. Pancakes for breakfast, a good burger for dinner and of course, the amazing cake my brother’s fiancée makes
- Fun traditions like going to a favourite spot or a fun plan like going to a concert. If you want to read more about traditions, click here
- Just enjoying spending time with friends or family throughout the day
Birthday New Beginnings
Beyond the balloons and cake, birthdays mark a fresh start. They give us space to look back, reflect, and reset. It’s like starting a new chapter; the past chapters matter, but the new one is unwritten and full of opportunities. Birthdays nudge us to check in with ourselves and dream about where we want to go next, almost like a personal “New Year”
Acts of Kindness
How people go out of their way to make you smile on your birthday always warms my heart. The small gestures and kind messages stick with me for a long time after. It also helps me remind me to be thoughtful of others, how can I be a better friend and make sure I’m making the time for other people, which is not something I’m the best at when times get busy.
So, in conclusion, birthdays should be a happy day filled with your favourite things. If you have any fun birthday memories, please feel free to share them below
